Niche – To Niche or Not.. That Is The Question

Niche Or Not
I have spent years trying to “niche” myself here on Dusky Illusions…. I was actually worried about it.

To Niche or Not to Niche.. that is the question.
I have a blog for gaming and RPGs, I have a blog for the various grids… but this one, my main blog was my concern. I have read many great posts saying you must have a niche for your blog to generate interest and keep them coming. I have experienced that fact with the other two blogs. I get some decent feedback and views on this one, even with my concern about not having a niche. If you have ever read any of my “about” pages, you will see me dwell on that fact.
Why Am I Blogging?
I originally decided to blog to help me refine my writing skills. I write every day, even if it’s not on my blog. I believe that a writer, a pro or aspiring writer should write something every day, even if it’s crap. Jot down ideas on a pad of paper, write something in txt pad, do what ever it is you need to do to help you write every day. I often pull out a lot of napkins with ideas, phrases or paragraphs from my camera bag.
I have blogged often over the years. Most of it was for the purpose of writing practice. I have scraped many of them and started over a few times. I still don’t know what my niche is, but I enjoy the writing aspect of having a blog. I know a little about a lot, and always have something to say. — Taken from my current about page.
To Niche or Not to Niche- That is the Question
I respect the views of the people with great blogs that have found their niche. They talk about finding the best thing to make money, or the thing you are most passionate about. I thought about my passions for a while, and I have a few. Writing, Food and Cooking, and the Arts…. especially MUSIC!!!!
As I look back on past posts on this blog, my niche isn’t really hidden from me, I just didn’t choose to see it. Three of my passions are already here on this blog. Music, food, and writing. I have shown some of my creative side posting a mind flow, posts about how I feel about issues in my real life and news worthy items. Most of all, I have posted and shared about music and cooking.
Now the real question… does this count as a niche. To me, food and music go hand in hand, they compliment each other perfectly. Music is about writing and creativity, as is the art of cooking. Yes, I consider cooking an art form.
All three of my passions begin with a creative spark. From the photographer who looked through a lens and captured that perfect visual, from the musician who played with his guitar and played out a brilliant melody, from the writer who started out a new paragraph, to the cook who mixed some spices and other ingredients….
Niche – The Answer to my Question

AHA! I GOT IT NOW!
If you are still wondering about my niche, I know I was kind of broad about it as the light bulb went off in my head.
My niche, in my opinion, is artistic creativity. Now that I have discovered my niche for Dusky Illusions, I can carry on doing what I have been doing all along. Writing about things I am passionate about.
“I originally decided to blog to help me refine my writing skills…..”
You have always been creative and it has shown. You have been passionate too! It melds together in your blog and that is a good thing!
